A Look Inside Project Hudson's Latest Internship Experience

Last summer, Benjamin Horgan, had an opportunity to take an internship with Project Hudson, where he was able to get involved in our efforts to improve our community. Read our Q&A below to find out how he felt about his experience with us!

Q: In what ways did Project Hudson give you the support and developmental insight that you were looking for?

A: Project Hudson supported and developed me in every way possible. From the beginning, I felt a part of a family. Jon took time to introduce me to other team members and fill me in on all the exciting projects going on. Every person I met was friendly and engaging. It really is a special group of people. With such supportive and compassionate mentors, this experience was everything I was hoping for. I leave Project Hudson with friends and mentors that I can always count on.

Q: What kind of experience did you get from the internship with us? What projects were you involved with?

A: I was involved in building out the lesson curriculum. Specifically, the Coach- Mentee Playbook. I worked closely with Tom, Jon, and Anthony to build out lesson plans such as Setting Financial Goals, Borrowing Money, and Budgeting. My favorite part of the experience was interacting directly with a mentee. Hearing his stories and being able to help him was an incredibly rewarding and motivating experience.

Q: Please share some of your most valuable takeaways from this experience.

A: The most valuable part of the internship was the lessons and advice from the people I worked with. Jon took time to really teach me. He answered any and all questions I had. From the process of buying a house, to excel shortcuts and tricks, to career options, Jon always found time to help me out regardless of topic. He was open and available whenever I needed anything. The people I worked with made my experience incredibly worthwhile. These relationships are just as, if not more valuable than anything I learned. I am incredibly thankful to work with the Project Hudson team.

Q: What did we do well throughout the course of your experience with us?

A: Everyone I met on the team was incredibly welcoming and supportive from the beginning. I know I mentioned this before, but I can’t stress enough how quickly I felt a part of the team. I felt involved and valued. The excitement and passion from the team was contagious. I also really appreciated the freedom and creativity I was given.

Q: Please describe our culture in 3 words, and elaborate on why you chose each word.

A: Friendly, passionate, helpful - A nonprofit with a goal and mission like Project Hudson is bound to attract really good people and that is exactly what I experienced. The team is welcoming, committed, and looking to improve others lives.

Q: How can we improve our internship program?

A: I am very happy with everything I got to experience. From calls with Jon, Tom, or Anthony, to interacting with the team, to all hands meetings, I liked that I got to see different aspects of the organization. If anything, I wish I did more to follow and learn from the different projects taking place. Also, I really like the Project Hudson merch. I still wear my yellow Project Hudson bar crawl wristband. Overall, I had a really positive experience with Project Hudson and am incredibly thankful I got to work with them this past summer.
