Are you feeling stuck in your career? Having trouble getting interviews or landing a role you’re passionate about? We’re here to help. In addition to free financial literacy education, Project Hudson also provides professional development resources at no cost.

We want to help marginalized populations in our community succeed and thrive. Our free professional development services include:

·      Full review of your resume - identify and highlight some of your most marketable skills

·      Interview preparation – from dressing appropriately to learning how to answer interview questions

One of our recent mentees, Sheryl, met with us to talk about her experience working with our Director of Professional Development, Beau Guarino to land a role within PwC’s Trust Start 7-week internship program, focusing on auditing, digital assurance, and tax services.

Sheryl is a member of an underrepresented group, a college student, and a mother who came to the US from Jamaica. She shared that during her developmental years in Jamaica, her mother, who was an entrepreneur, had limited access to resources that would have been useful to help better understand business. She says this is why she was inspired to pursue accounting.

She is currently studying at St. Peter’s University and hopes to pursue her CPA after completing her Bachelor’s degree in accounting with the university. In addition to her studies, Sheryl works with Welcome Home Jersey City, an organization that helps refugees and asylum-seekers in Jersey City find educational and employment resources and support. She found Project Hudson through an in-person presentation held at St. Peter’s University in partnership with Welcome Home Jersey City, where she was interested to learn more about the services we offer and reached out to Andrew, our VP, Community Outreach. Andrew directed her to Beau for resume review and interview preparation as she sought assistance in preparation for her interview with PwC – a connection that she says changed her life.

Project Hudson was able to develop Sheryl’s resume to stand out and bring better visibility to her skills and experience, to help her develop her professional goals and clearly articulate in interviews why she would be a great candidate for them to hire. She had a great experience and appreciates the impact that Project Hudson had on her development: “it was amazing to see the results in less than a week of working with [Andrew and Beau]”.

As we reach more people with our free professional development and financial literacy services and resources, we hope to share more success stories likes Sheryl’s in the future!
